Almedia bravely shared updates on her treatment and her day-to-day struggles with her 4.5 million social media followers, The Sun reports. She tried her best to remain positive throughout.

Despite undergoing immunotherapy at Nove de Julho Hospital in São Paul,  the cancer spread to Almedia’s other organs. On Tuesday, her boyfriend of two years, Pedro Rocha, confirmed the devastating news on Instagram that the 24-year-old had lost her nearly year-long battle with cancer.

“Unfortunately Nara passed away last night, after so much fighting I wanted to have her forever, but she deserved to rest,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Her death leaves a huge space in my heart but she is going to live forever inside me, she will always be my inspiration, making me see the world in a better light.

“I am sure she will continue conveying her strength to many people, as this was her goal.”

As PEOPLE reports, Almedia frequently shared the devastating and painful reality of living with stomach cancer with her social media followers.

“Only I and God know what I’ve already been through, how many traumas, how many sleepless nights crying in pain, only he and I know! I want it to end soon God, you understand my heart, help me give me the strength and strength to continue I beg you,” she wrote in March.

In April, she shared: “I believe that in the end everything will work out and I will come out of it very strengthened and ready to help other people.”

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, her boyfriend added: “A message that summarizes what I learned from Nara is: ‘Live life, enjoy it to the fullest and do not apologize for being who you are.’ I’ve had this incredible person by my side.”
