The Next Season Of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Will Cover The Coronavirus Pandemic

Grey Sloan will be taking on the current crisis

With lockdowns came the endless watching (and rewatching) of our favourite TV shows. While Grey’s Anatomy has always been a fan favourite, it’s found a special place in many quarantine schedules and fans have been desperate to know if the current global health crisis would make its way to Grey Sloan Hospital.

Looks like we’ve finally gotten some answers, with showrunner Krista Vernoff confirming the COVID-19 pandemic will feature in its next season.

“There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes,” Vernoff said in a panel hosting by the Television Academy.

While the show has stopped production, the team are already working on upcoming storylines. Which also includes talking to real doctors on the front lines.

“Every year, we have doctors come and tell us their stories, and usually they’re telling their funniest or craziest stories. This year, it has felt more like therapy,” Vernoff said. “The doctors come in and we’re the first people they’re talking to about these types of experiences they’re having. They are literally shaking and trying not to cry, they’re pale, and they’re talking about it as war—a war that they were not trained for.”

She added, “I feel like our show has an opportunity and a responsibility to tell some of those stories.”

In particular, Vernoff said Dr Owen Hunt will feature significantly with his Army experience making him uniquely qualified to handle the situation.

“That’s been one of our big conversations about Owen, is that he’s actually trained for this in a way that most of the other doctors aren’t,” Vernoff said.

While we wait, we’ll just begin from season one.
