‘Good Trouble’ Is The Millennial Drama Worth Adding To Your Watch List

Featuring diverse characters and poignant themes

When it comes to what we’re placing on our must-watch lists of late, series that offer up diverse and interesting characters with a penchant for hard-to-tackle themes and modern issues tend to make their way to the top. While series like The Bold Type, Insecure and Sex Education are all notably on there, Good Trouble is the millennial drama that should be added too.

A spin-off from The Fosters, which follows teenager Callie Jacob (Maia Mitchell) after she’s placed in a foster home with a lesbian couple and their blend of biological, adoptive, and foster children, Good Trouble has already released two seasons with another on the way. It follows Callie, and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they head to Los Angeles. Mariana tackles the male-dominated world of tech and Callie faces the harsh realities of the legal system as she clerks for a federal judge, all the while dealing with modern issues that are often uncomfortable and confronting.

The series has been praised for its tackling of social issues, including gender equality in the workplace, tans workers’ rights, body positivity and the shooting of an unarmed Black man by white police officers. In its second season, Good Trouble introduced a groundbreaking love story between two of its characters, one of which comes out as nonbinary and the journey that it entails.

It was announced at a Television Critics Association event in January that the series had been renewed for a Season 3, however, it has since been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
