The inaugural marie claire and Bumble Glass Ceiling Awards, supported by Estee Lauder Companies, were held on Wednesday, June 19 at Pier One against the iconic backdrop of Sydney Harbour.
For years, women have been fighting for equal rights, equal pay and equal respect in the workforce and it was time to recognise and applaud the game-changing women and companies who are paving the way for the next generation.

Thousands of man-hours go into creating this fabulous event, dubbed one of the highlight events on Sydney’s social calendar. The bespoke menu was created by Pier one and was paired with Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label. The electric atmosphere was further punctuated by the inspiring words of women who embody the Glass Ceiling Awards and DJ Alice Quiddington.

Over 150 inspiring women attended the first ever Glass Ceiling Awards. Our judging panel made up of high-profile “ceiling smashers” and business leaders, including former Prime Minister Julia Gillard, celebrated chef Kylie Kwong, fashion designer Camilla Franks, World Champion surfer Layne Beachley, Seven journalist Melissa Doyle, Business Chicks CEO Olivia Ruello, ABC host Virginia Trioli, Bumble’s Associate Marketing Director, APAC, Michelle Battersby and Estée Lauder Companies managing director Terry Little.
Not to mention a slate of up-and-coming leaders in fashion, beauty, business, science and the arts.

While Sunrise‘s Edwina Bartholomew made her first public appearance since announcing that she is expecting her first child, Tech Ready Women founder and CEO Christie Whitehill announced that she’s pregnant onstage.

marie claire editor Nicky Brigger welcomed guests with a stirring speech, revealing that there are more CEOs with the first name ‘Andrew’ than there are female CEOs across Australia. And, that 25 of those Australian female CEOs were in fact, in the room.
