WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR EPISODE THREE OF ‘GAME OF THRONES’.
It was never a secret that Game of Thrones episode ‘The Long Night’ was one of the longest television battles to ever air. That being said, we knew going in that a few characters from the Seven Kingdoms wouldn’t survive. It took 55 days and almost $15 million to film, but it was well worth it – going by viewer reactions, at least.
We’ve rounded up the full list of those that, unfortunately, didn’t make it to the end.
Eddison ‘Dolourous Edd’ Tollett
Dolourous Edd perished while helping Samwell Tarly in battle.
The Dothraki
After the Red Woman lit the Dothraki swords with fire, they were the first to perish when faced with the White Walkers.
Lady Lyanna Mormont
The young leader came face-to-face with the giant white.
Beric Dondarrion
Perhaps the most significant death. The man with many lives finally completed the task offered to him by the Lord of Light, to save Arya.
Viserion
The Night King’s dragon perished along with his father when Arya delivered the final blow.
Ser Jorah Mormont
As expected, the valiant Jorah died while defending his queen, Daenerys Targaryen.
The Night King
Although we never found out what the Night King wanted with Bran, we’re glad to see him gone.
Theon Greyjoy
After shooting dead plenty of White Walkers with his brilliant archery skills, Theon perished defending Bran from the Night King.
Rhaegal
This remains up in the air after the dragon was seen being clawed down by wights.
Melisandre
The Red Priestess made a surprise return moments before the battle began, arming the Winterfell side with fire and assisting in the battle against the Night King. When the battle is over, she takes off her youth-preserving choker and collapses outside the gates of Winterfell, fulfilling her promise from season seven that she would return to the kingdom once more – to die.
