The 1994 film that made Drew Barrymore a Hollywood acting legend at just eight-years-old is getting a modern reboot with none other than Zac Efron, according to Deadline.
The film, based on the 1980 novel of the same name by Stephen King, follows a young girl who develops pyrokinesis, due to an experiment that her parents underwent as teenagers that left them with telepathic abilities.
Once a government testing group, known only as ‘The Shop’, discover her powers, they seek to utilise her powers for their own agenda.
The original film was directed by Mark L. Lester and starred David Keith, Martin Sheen and Heather Locklear alongside Barrymore.
According to the Deadline report, Keith Thomas (The Vigil) is set to direct the new version, with writer Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) signed on to executive produce.
It’s unknown who Zac Efron will play, or if the adaption will stay true to the novel’s plot, but this will be 32-year-old Efron’s second foray into the horror genre after he played Ted Bundy in Netflix’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile in 2019.
