Yellowjackets season three is back to once again set us on the edge of our seats and mess with our minds. And, boy, is it already delivering on both fronts just episodes in.
Supernatural elements and experiences continue to haunt the team (and us, for that matter) as the mystery of the wilderness, the symbols and Tai’s visions play out.
So, as we dive into the third season with a giddy apprehension we can only compare to watching a jumpscare horror flick, only juicier, let’s unpack all the big questions and theories we want answers to.
Yellowjackets Theories
The Man With No Eyes: Answered (Sort Of)

Cast your mind back to season one of Yellowjackets and you may recall the eerie appearance of the man with no eyes as Tai’s grandmother passed away. The flashback to Tai’s childhood showed her at the bedside of her grandmother who spots something in the mirror before telling the man to come toward her. Suddenly, she begins screaming, “Don’t let him take my eyes!” in what’s a traumatising experience for Tai.
Fans were left with little explanation…until now. In season three, episode three, Tai and Van are rewatching videos of Pee-wee’s Playhouse from the 1980s when Tai spots the man in an ice cream commercial. In the clip he does in fact have eyes, but they bulge in a cartoon manor as the ad explains they sell ice cream so good it will make your eyes pop out.
Van rationalises that Tai must have seen the ad as a child and upon her grandmother’s lucid hysteria quickly associated the man with death that she conjured in her own mind. Considering Tai’s grandmother also saw the man, and Tai continues to conjure him through her terrifying dirt-eating, tree climbing alter ego, we’re not convinced that’s all there is to this mystery.
Who Is The Pit Girl? Unanswered

Remember all those scenes of the team chasing a girl (we assume a fellow team member) through the wilderness in a craze before she falls into a spike-laden pit to her death? Well, fans are slowly starting to suspect said girl or prey, if you will, is Mari.
While there wasn’t much to go off initially other than her long brown hair–which is an obvious match for Mari–season three begins to depict a rift amongst the group, namely between her and
Shauna.
While her mean-girl attitude hasn’t won her any friends amongst the group over the past two seasons, it’s her bickering with Shauna that sees her storm off from the group in season three, episode one. At the end of the episode Mari falls into Coach Ben’s pit–a foreshadowing of her fate, perhaps–before he takes her captive. We won’t give away more details yet, but so far, all signs are pointing straight to Mari.
Yellowjackets Symbol Meaning: Unanswered

The meaning or significance behind the ominous symbol of a girl with what appears to be a hook for legs and a spear through her stomach, has plagued viewers since the series began.
We’ve seen the symbol most notably appear around death–under the skeleton the team found in the attic, on the tree where Coach Martinez was found, next to the corpse of the hunter Jackie sees in her dying visions.
While some of the girls, namely Lottie, see the symbol as protection others like Travis tie it to the darkness in the wilderness. Fans may recall he mapped the symbol out in candles, saying the “only way to know what the wilderness wants is to get as close to death as possible” before he himself died.
Some fans speculate the image is tied to fleeting trigonometry reference early in the show and could be a map, while others suggest if turned upside down the hook aren’t legs but a girl being hung and drained before being eaten and therefore a cannibalism reference.
