The Bachelorette is officially underway for its sixth season, following along with “country sweethearts” and sisters Elly and Becky Miles as they search for love. And with Network Ten promising “double the dates, double the fun and double the romance” this time around, we were eagerly awaiting its premiere episode tonight.
To be expected, the night kicked off with some confusion as this year’s pool of contestants walked the red carpet—as one hopeful suitor put it, “two chicks, double the trouble.” Elly and Becky met their potential dates together, and then they were tasked with choosing which suitor they’d each be dating.
For Elly, we spotted an early frontrunner in footballer Joe Woodbury, a Newcastle native who Elly has previously dated in the past (and allegedly asked producers to cast). “She ticks all the boxes, she’s the perfect chick,” he tells producers. “She’s the one that got away.”
Of course, no Bachie premiere would be complete without a twist from host Osher Gunsberg, who introduced the “country rose” this year (what that does and the drama lying in its wake remains to be seen).
Without missing a beat, Twitter was along for the ride providing us with the hilarious commentary that always seems to make the episodes that little bit sweeter. Below, the best reactions to The Bachelorette’s premiere episode.
