Married At First Sight’s Awhina and Adriana had a rocky start to their marriage. While they’re certainly not on par with the hot mess that was Eliot and Lauren or even Katie and Tim, there have been a few red flags leading fans to wonder if they’re still together.
Let’s unpack the drama, clues and flags, shall we?
First impressions are everything, and luckily for Awhina and Adrian, it was pretty positive. After all, what’s the chances of pairing two identical sets of twins? When you’re applying for a reality TV series, probably pretty high, actually.
Despite an initial attraction the couple took a backslide when Adrian made a joke about having kids during the wedding ceremony, unbeknownst to him, Awhina has a six-year-old son.
“I have a six month-old,” he started, before continuing, “Aussie Shepherd.” Not feeling amused in the slightest by Adrian turning to clarify “don’t worry, I don’t have kids,” Awhina spoke to cameras afterwards to share her frustrations.
“I was a little bit taken aback by that comment. I am a mum and it’s a big part of who I am,” she said.
The fact Awhina has a child to her previous relationship was revealed during her parent’s wedding speech before the bride had a chance to tell her groom. Uh-oh.
Adrian didn’t take it well…at first.
After some time with the news he resolved that he would approach the situation with an open mind.
‘If I fall in love with this girl, I fall in love with her son. If it doesn’t work out, then I lose two people that I love in life,’ he said.
Are MAFS’ Awhina and Adriana Still Together?
Fans were sent into a panic recently when Adrian was reportedly spotted out on a date with another woman.
An eagle-eyed fan spotted the groom out in Sydney with a mystery woman under his arm. However, the groom told Yahoo Lifestyle it was a case of mistaken identity and that it was his twin brother spotted out on a date.
‘We are identical and our haircuts are exactly the same. He doesn’t have long hair anymore, nor do I. We literally both have the same haircut right now,’ Adrian insisted.
‘Leading into the show, we sort of knew that this would happen so we decided to get the same haircut because people wouldn’t know the difference, especially now.’
The perks of having an identical twin, hey?
Over the Valentine’s Day weekend, social media footage of the pair told a very different story. A clip shared to MAFS Gossip Instagram account revealed Awhina and Adrian spent the day of romance together at the football.
The clip shows Awhina recieving a red rose from a mystery hand before she’s seen sitting in the stands as Adrian kisses her on the cheek. Looks promising to us.
On the surface, everything appeared to be coming along nicely, that was until just before final vows.
Speaking to the table during the last dinner party, Adrian voiced his concerns about committing to a long-distance relationship. To Awhina’s shock, the groom continued to speak his unwillingness to try, and the two decided to part ways. Or at least we thought they did, until final vows when they shocked viewers by staying together – well… kind of?
“You’re not my future right now. This is where our journey ends,” Awhina concluded her vows, while Adrian said, “I’m now deciding [to] walk away.”
Sounds like a break up, right? Well, as it turns out, the pair decided to remain in basically a situationship and give long-distance a go and “see where [they] stand.” But as it turns out, that, too, wasn’t to work, with Adrian revealing the two have since broken things off completely.
“Everyone thinks the decision was just mine, like I was in control of what she was saying or what she was doing or how she was thinking, Adrian told Yahoo.
“But I’m like, Awhina has a choice too, and she decided that it’s not best for us. So it wasn’t just one-sided, it was both of us having an adult conversation, being like, ‘This isn’t gonna work, but we can still be friends and we can still care for each other and share this special experience’. And that’s what we’ve done.”
