The official Game of Thrones: The Last Watch documentary is here and you’d better grab the tissues now because its a lot to handle. Viewers are shown the final table read (featuring a blubbering Kit Harington) and Emilia Clarke’s final scene ever.
“This is strange. Here we are at the last table read. It’s like looking around and seeing your family,” co-creator D.B. Weiss says in the trailer below over cuts of crying cast members.
But most interesting, viewers were shown a glimpse into the moment the entire cast found out just who would kill the Night King. “He stops before Bran and raises his sword to strike, but something is hurdling toward him out of the darkness: Arya,” a producer read. “She plunges the dagger up through the Night King’s armor. The Night King shatters.”
The cast immediately cheered at the news, the documentary shows, with Williams doing a celebratory dance while Kit Harington and Sophie Turner clap.
The reactions didn’t end there though. Photos of Harington’s reaction to learning Jon would kill Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) have already been released, the documentary showed the moment in full-force. Harington put his hands in his hair and looked distraught. Clarke slid down and made a goofy face to lighten the mood.
Described as an “up close and personal report from the trenches of production,” the movie will show how production was completed while battling extreme weather, deadlines and a growing fandom always on the hunt for spoilers. “Much more than a ‘making of’ documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world—and then have to say goodbye to it,” HBO said in a release.
The two-hour documentary comes from Jeanie Finlay, who was embedded onset of the series for a year, chronicling the creation of the show’s biggest and most complicated season. HBO said in a press release the film will “reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland”.
