Game of Thrones farewelled some fan favourite characters during the epic third episode of season eight, ‘The Long Night’, and naturally the social media tributes are pouring in.
In the long battle against the Night King, many characters gave their lives to defend the North before Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) delivered the fatal blow with her Valerian Steel Dagger. Alife Allen’s Theon Greyjoy lost his life after being forgiven by Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) for his betrayal. While the episode was overwhelming, we’re living for these epic behind-the-scenes shots.

Sophie Turner
Sophie, aka Sansa Stark, wrote, “To Alfie and to Theon…“You’re a good man”,” alongside a heartbreaking photo of Theon’s final moments.
Emilia Clarke
Emilia paid tribute to one of the fallen character’s, Jorah Mormont, played by Iain Glenn. “YOU’RE SIMPLY THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST, BETTER THAN ANYONE, ANYONE IVE EVER MET…..,” she wrote with a crying emoji. Clarke included these hashtags as well: “#serjorahforlyfe#thronesthrowsapunchandahalf #heartbreakhotel #bestthingiveverseenonscreenEVER.”
Maisie Williams
“how am feeling after that episode. not today bby 👋🏻”, the actress wrote alongside a video of Sophie Turner punching a snowball singing Soulja Boy.
Carice van Houten
“Game of Thrones 2015”, Carice, who plays Melisandre, wrote to Instagram alongside a cast photo.
Gwendoline Christie
Brienne of Tarth, or Gwendoline, took to Instagram to share a video laughing alongside Kristofer Hivju presumably while filming ‘The Long Night’.
Kristofer Hivju
Kristofer, who portrays Tormund Giantsbane, shared a selfie from the epic battle scene.
Daniel Portman
Portman, who plays Podrick, wrote a lengthy tribute to Gwendoline Christie. “My dear, dear friend. A beautiful companion on this journey and the kindest, most committed, hardworking person I’ve had the pleasure of doing any of the crazy stuff we do with. The show might be over for us, but the love remains, always. My friend. ❤️”
Isaac Hempstead Wright
“Here’s a still taken from the alternate episode 3 ending in which the Night King becomes Bran’s carer and they both live happily ever after,” Isaac, better known as Bran Stark, wrote to Instagram.
