Keira Knightley’s New Show Is Here To “Ruin Christmas”

In the best way possibe, we swear
Will there be a season two of Black Doves

It’s officially Keira Knightley season, aka Love Actually season, but the actress is adding another Christmas-adjacent watch to her repertoire for the festive season ahead: Black Doves.

Not your traditional holiday watch, Knightley admitted she is, in fact, “planning to take it [Christmas] over” but not in a cheery, festive way given Black Doves is a trigger-happy spy thriller.

“I’m planning to completely ruin the festivities with this one,” she goes on to tell The Guardian.

“If you’re feeling angry with your relatives and you want to see two possible psychopaths killing lots of people at Christmastime, this is the show to go for.”

So what should you expect (other than Christmas carnage) from the six-part series? Scroll on for all the details.

What Is Black Doves About?

Helen Webb (played by Knightley) is a down-to-earth mother and dedicated wife. She’s also a professional spy. It’s a convenient  profession really, given her husband is a politician, all his secrets of which she’s regularly sharing with her bosses.

As spies do, Helen also has a lover, Jason, but her life is thrown into chaos when he’s assassinated. In order to keep her safe and try to get to the bottom of Jason’s murder, her boss tasks retired spy, Sam, to watch over her. Not only is her cover under threat but she begins to uncover “a vast, interconnected conspiracy linking the murky London underworld to a looming geopolitical crisis.”

Oh, did we mention it’s set at Christmas time? Duh.

Will There Be A Season Two Of Black Doves?

If you needed anymore convincing this festive thriller was a must-watch this season, it’s so good it’s already been confirmed for a second season.

It’s an extremely rare occurrence from Netflix, but really proves our point, with the news first being announced at the Edinburgh TV festival earlier this year.

What Will Happen In Season Two Of Black Doves?

It’s the question we’re all going to want to know the second we finish the last episode, but until we do, it’s hard to say what will come from the show’s sophomore season. Check back here for updates as they drop.
