The Dancing With Stars Season 33 cast lineup has outraged some (and delighted many) with the inclusion of con artist turned influencer Anna ‘Delvey’ Sorokin.
It’s something of an American reality TV tradition that the cast members of Dancing With The Stars are revealed live on Good Morning America. And this year, viewers of morning TV were left shocked when Sorokin strolled out with an impeccable blowdry and ankle monitor firmly in place.
Anna Sorokin, known to some as Anna Delvey, is currently under house arrest after serving two years in prison for grand larceny in the second degree, attempted grand larceny and theft of services. If you’re behind on the news, you’ll find her crimes exhaustively detailed in the memoir My Friend Anna and the subsequent hit Netflix series Inventing Anna.
Anna Sorokin is infinitely quotable and has become a meme favourite on TikTok with videos of her saying: “I’d be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything” and “Maybe you’ll learn how to be smart like me. I doubt it, but you can dream” all over the internet.
Dancing With The Stars US has pulled out all the stops for Season 33 because the gripping cast list doesn’t stop with the appearance of a world-famous German scammer. But first, how is Anna Sorokin able to participate at all?
How Does Anna ‘Delvey’ Sorokin Compete In Dancing With The Stars While Under House Arrest?
Anna Sorokin explained to People magazine that when Dancing With The Stars approached her team, she had to request permission from ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) to travel out of state to film in LA. Some may think ICE was pulling Delvey a favour; most people under house arrest don’t get to chase their dancing dreams on reality TV. But Sorokin felt they moved a little slow. “It took them about 10 days to get it through the system and to get everything approved,” she said, “By the time I got the approval, it was very close to the starting day, so I kind of flew to LA pretty much the next day, and I just decided why not?”
Asked about the criticism Dancing With The Stars US has come under for casting her, Sorokin responded in typical Anna Delvey fashion: “It’s just not that serious. If someone is that upset about casting on a dancing show, I don’t know what to tell them.”
If you’re intrigued by Anna Sorokin’s co-stars, we are, too. Here’s everything you need to know about the cast of what’s set to be the most-watched Dancing With the Stars US in history.
The Dancing With The US Cast List Season 33
Tori Spelling
Best known for playing Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210 Spelling filmography includes Sharknado, Scary Movie 2, Scream 2, and Dancing With The Stars. Spelling said that her 90210 cast mate Shannen Doherty would watch over her while she competes. “I know Shannen will be watching over, and she always said you got to turn your power on. So, I’m doing it now.”
Stephen Nedoroscik, aka “Pommel Horse Guy”
Stephen Nedoroscik went viral during the Paris Olympics thanks to his assassin-like performance during the men’s Gymnastics competition.
He won hearts during the Olympics and scored in the US for the first men’s gymnastics Olympic medal in years. But Nedoroscik, who can solve a Rubik’s cube in 10 seconds flat, is nervous about the competition. “The Olympics was so stressful. It’s very difficult,” he said on Good Morning America, “But I’ve also never danced, so I’m really nervous about what’s going to happen.”
We’ve got our fingers crossed for him.
Ilona Maher
Nedoroscik isn’t the only Olympian getting their dancing shoes out. Rugby Olympic medallist and TikTok queen Ilona Maher is joining the fray. While the Olympics was her “life goal” she knows Dancing With The Stars will be “really tough and stressful.” We can’t think of a better person to take on Anna Sorokin.
Brooks Nader
Brooks Nader is a Louisiana-based Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and influencer with 1 million followers on Instagram.
Reginald Vel Johnson
Another left-of-field dancing contestant, Reginald VelJohnson, played Carl Winslow on the American sitcom Family Matters. He also had a recurring role as a police officer in Die Hard (1988) and Di Hard 2 (1990). It seems he’s bringing Bruce Willis-level determination to the role, promising the audience of Good Morning America that “America is going to be shocked.”
Jenn Tran
Jenn Tran recently left The Bachelorette, where she was the first Asian American to lead the franchise (she first appeared in Joey Graziadei’s season of The Bachelor before becoming a lead in season 21).
Tran is fresh off a heartbreak: she proposed to Devin Strader in the final episode of season 21. However, the follow-up “After the Final Rose” special revealed that the pair had already split. She says, “I think heartbreak is the best motivator for success. I’m out for blood. I’m ready.”
Dwight Howard
Professional basketballer Dwight Howard told GMA, “I’ve been dancing my whole life, but not ballroom dancing,” referring to his extensive experience on the court. He said he’ll follow his partner’s lead and “have a lot of fun.”
Eric Roberts
Eric Roberts is a Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated actor and the older brother of Julia Roberts. He’s also Emma Roberts’ dad. We’ll park our sadness that Dancing With The Stars couldn’t pull off making this series a family affair and have our fingers crossed for the actor who says DWTS is a “mile and half” outside his comfort zone. He told the audience that his sister and daughter found out about his competing in real-time. Thanks, dad!
Chandler Kinney
Chandler Kinney has starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise Zombies and Zombies 2 and has appeared in Pretty Little Liars as Tabitha Haworthe. She says Dancing With The Stars requires “showmanship and attention to detail” and added, “Everyone on the stage has proven they’re more than capable of that.”
Joey Graziadei
Joey Graziadei is a tennis coach and former Bachelor, and he said he is feeling pressure to live up to the accomplishments of the Bachelors and Bachelorettes who have gone before him on Dancing With The Stars.
Danny Amendola
Danny Amendola is a former NFL Player and has won two Super Bowls as a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. He retired in 2022 and has since dabbled in reality television, appearing in “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.” He’s also coached the Las Vegas Raiders.
Phaedra Parks
Parks is a lawyer and businesswoman and The Reals Housewives of Atlanta alum. She served between 2010 and 2017 and will appear in its 16th season. In true Real Housewives fashion, Parks was ready with a quip saying: “Everybody knows I’m sassy, classy, and some of my friends are a wee bit trashy, but if you come for this Mirrorball, it will get nasty.”
Where To Watch Dancing With The Stars Season 33
