The story is a raw and intoxicating portrayal of first love, and forbidden love, set across a European backdrop.

Plus, with the creative team (including Rooney herself) behind the critically acclaimed adaptation of Normal People returning for the project, we know that this will be one aesthetically pleasing, albeit heartbreaking, series.

Below, everything we know about the upcoming Conversations With Friends adaptation.

Conversations With Friends is another millennial Irish romance.

Conversations With Friends follows Dublin student and aspiring writer Frances and her best friend Bobbi, who befriends a married couple Melissa and Nick, and leads to very complicated emotional consequences.

“Frances (Alison Oliver) is twenty-one years old, cool-headed, and darkly observant,” the official synopsis reads.

“A college student and aspiring writer, she devotes herself to a life of the mind–and to the beautiful and endlessly self-possessed Bobbi (Sasha Lane), her best friend and comrade-in-arms. Lovers at school, the two young women now perform spoken-word poetry together in Dublin, where a journalist named Melissa (Jemima Kirke) spots their potential.”

Lenny Abrahamson Is Back To Direct.

Academy Award-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson, who was also behind Normal People, will return too.

“I love its depth, humour and freshness, and it’s an honour to be involved in bringing it to the screen,” Abrahamson said. “I’m particularly happy that my connection to Sally and her work is set to continue. Making Normal People has been a singular pleasure and I’m excited to be working with the same brilliant team again on Conversations With Friends.”

Normal People’s creative team, writer Alice Birch, and executive producer Ed Guiney, will also return and Rooney herself as executive producer.

The Cast Includes Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

The role of Frances will be played by newcomer Alison Oliver, while American Honey breakout star Sasha Lane will take on the role of Bobbi. Joe Alwyn stars as Nick and Jemima Kirke will play Melissa.
