Ah 2019, what a time to be dating. Social media is no longer a space just for posting your pretty pictures and #OOTD’s, but rather the perfect place to snatch up the love of your life – or so, it would seem. Countless celebrities have used Instagram and Twitter to find love, whether it be via direct message or a subtle note to grab the attention of their future partner (or not so subtle if you’re Zara Larsson).
Below, celebrities who met on social media.
Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas
Sophie Turner revealed to Harper’s BAZAAR UK that she initially met her fiancé after he messaged her on Instagram. “We had a lot of mutual friends, and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time,” she told the publication. “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”
Zara Larsson & Brian Whittaker
Swedish-born singer Zara Larsson famously Tweeted two pictures of model Brian Whittaker in 2015 writing: “Who are you, where do you live, how old are you, why are you so fine, how do you like your eggs cooked in the morning?” The couple later met and have been together since 2017.
Sarah Hyland & Wells Adams
In a 2018 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland told the host: “Have you seen those memes of ‘Slide into the DMs’? That. He slid into my DMs.” Adams told the actress, “Next time I’m in LA, I’m taking you out for drinks and tacos,” and the couple have been together ever since.
Ricky Martin & Jwan Yosef
Former The Voice Australia judge Ricky Martin revealed that he met his fiancé Jwan Yosef on Instagram after he found pictures of his partner’s artwork online. Martin previously stated: “I’m scrolling [through Instagram] and I see this beautiful piece of art, and I’m like, ‘Whoa, how cool! Who is this?’ Then I start checking all of a sudden, and I’m like: ‘Ooh, oooh.’ And then I wrote to him.” The couple now shares two sons.
Mandy Moore & Taylor Goldsmith
Newlyweds Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith met after Moore posted a picture of Goldsmith’s album to Twitter. “I took a picture of [The Doors’] album and posted it on Instagram. Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!,” she told People.
Sarah Paulson & Holland Taylor
American Horror Story actress Paulson revealed that she met her girlfriend Holland Taylor years ago, when they were both in different relationships—but that they reunited through Twitter. In a 2019 interview on talk show Watch What Happens Live!, Paulson revealed she and Taylor “breezed by each other” during an event at actress Martha Plimpton’s house, which led to them to reach out on social media. When fellow guest Billy Eichner said “Holland Taylor slid into your DMs?!”, Paulson replied: “She actually did!”
