2022 has barely begun, yet we’ve already had our fair share of pregnancy announcements, celebrity passings and high-profile proposals from our favourite A-listers and there’s nothing that warms our hearts more than a Hollywood wedding.
Before the bride and groom walk down the aisle comes the (often) extravagant engagements and oh-so stylish rings.
From thorn-encrusted rings that hurt to takeoff to indulgent proposals on top of the Swiss Alps, we’ve rounded up all the celebrities who have gotten engaged in 2022.
Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly
In the proposal that divided the world, with half saying the “surprise” proposal was cute and the other cringy, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly cemented their relationship with an internet-stopping engagement.
Taking to social media to share a video of the proposal, Fox revealed that MGK proposed under a Banyan Tree they visited in July of 2020 and “asked for magic”.
As for what followed, Fox shared “just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes…and then we drank each other’s blood”.
MGK then shared a close up video of Fox’s two-stoned ring. Featuring an emerald, which is Fox’s birthstone, and a diamond (you guessed it, MGK’s birthstone), the impressive stones are “set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love”.
Just when we thought we had heard enough about their ‘painful’ romance, MGK told Vogue “the bands are actually thorns. So if she tries to take it off, it hurts. … Love is pain!”
We’re wondering if they’ll have a joint wedding with Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.
Romee Strijd and Laurens van Leeuwen
Dutch supermodel Romee Strijd and her partner of 12 years, Laurens van Leeuwen, announced their engagement in January 2022.
Van Leeuwen proposed atop of the Swiss Alps at a romantic (albeit freezing) picnic, complete with roses and champagne, of course.
In 2020, Strijd gave birth to her daughter Mint, whom she shares with van Leeuwen, so we’re sure the genetically-blessed bub will play the role of flower girl at their wedding.
Grace Tame and Max Heerey
Former Australian of the Year and marie claire Woman of the Year Grace Tame is engaged to her partner Max Heerey.
Taking to social media on January 22 to share the news, Tame revealed that she responded with a resounding “oath yes” when Heerey popped the question during a bike ride around her hometown of Hobart.
The gorgeous ring is made by local jeweller Tender Scars are features an ethically sourced Queensland Sapphire and 14ct white gold.
Speaking to us last year, Tame said that Heerey is “the love of my life, my actual soulmate”.
“I know it sounds soppy, but I couldn’t give less of a fuck”, she continued, “Yeah, I know what love is now”.
Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin
Four years and one baby girl later, former child stars Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin are engaged!
While neither Song or Culkin have publicly commented on their engagement, fans have spotted the couple around Los Angeles, with Song showcasing her diamond ring. You can see pictures of ring here.
The couple first met in Thailand, on the set of the film Changeland.
Song and Culkin welcomed a baby girl in April 2021. The bundle of joy was named Dakota, after Culkin’s late sister.
Lana Condor and Anthony De La Torre
It seems that Lara Jean has finally found her forever man. Or at least Lana Condor has.
The To All The Boys actress took to Instagram to reveal her engagement to partner Anthony De La Torre.
“Saying YES was the easiest decision I’ve ever made”, Condor captioned the post, “I consider myself the absolute luckiest woman alive to live in your sphere.”
The ring was designed by a Canadian female-owned company Paris Jewellers with Condor describing it as “most stunning piece” she’s ever seen.
“The fact he knew how important it was to me that he’d collaborate w/ a Vietnamese company to help design my ring is a testament to just how truly thoughtful he always is”, she continued, “I cannot wait to be your wife, baby. I love you a million times over.”
