This news deserves a cheer!

Prepare to bust out the pom-poms and cheer some Toro pride, because Gabrielle Union has confirmed a Bring It On sequel with the iconic film’s original cast is officially in the works. Speaking on the Late, Late Show with James Corden, the actress revealed the exciting news assuring the host Kirsten Dunst and other cast are ready for the sequel.

“It’s absolutely going to happen,” Union said. “I think [we agreed] because we all got obsessed with Cheer on Netflix and it kind of like brought back the whole love of cheerleading, and we kinda want to see where these people would be 20 years later.”

The Bring It On franchise includes six spinoff films, but this will be the first that is a continuation of the original.

Director Peyton Reed spoke to Insider earlier this year about the possibility of second film in celebration of the movie’s 20th anniversary, admitting it was something he and Bring It On screenwriter Jessica Bendinger had “definitely been talking about recently.”

“We have talked about doing a 20-years-later thing that becomes a generational cheerleader movie,” Reed told the publication. “Particularly with the thematics involved, I think that could be something that would be really timely. And hopefully, something that would not shy away from the inherent issues of the movie.”
