This Bridgerton Fan Theory About Colin & Penelope Is Pretty Exciting

Please let it be true

We’ve got a long while to wait for Bridgerton season two, but that won’t stop fans speculating on exactly how the series will envision the fates of our favourite characters and fantasy couples, obviously. The latest to become fan theory fodder? Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

A HUGE spoiler alert here: book discussion imminent. So, in the Bridgerton book series, Penelope and Colin do end up having a perfect romance as we’ve all been wishing. Except, it takes four entire books for this to eventuate – and ten full years in the Bridgerton world.

But fans are speculating that, in fact, it could all happen much sooner than that. It stems from this Reddit post by Not-Dry-Toast, who basically looked at the general run of Netflix programs and determined that it isn’t likely the Bridgerton series will follow the book plot to the letter, in order to progress the storyline enough to squeeze a few seasons out. The reason the Redditor thinks this? All based around that Baron Featherington plotline we copped at the end of the first season.

“My theory is that the whole plot line of the Baron Featherington losing all the family’s money and dying, thus introducing the new Baron, is all a plot device to speed up the story,” the Redditor said.

See, in the books, Baron Featherington is already dead. So that plotline becoming a pivotal moment at the end of the first season surely indicates season two will be focused on the Featheringtons, the mysterious character who inherits their estate, and further shenanigans relating to all of this.

If that’s the case, Not-Dry-Toast believes this new heir will want to marry off all these Featherington ladies quick-smart, leading to a possible rushed marriage for Penelope… which will strike fear into Colin, who has always found her available and interested in him.

It’s definitely all speculation at this point, but you have to admit the introduced plot of a mysterious Featherington heir must be a device to progress some key book storylines along. Whether its to bring Colin and Penelope together sooner than we expected, well we’ll have to wait on that one.
