We’ve all heard a Bridezilla story, from brides telling bridesmaids to dye their ‘attention grabbing hair, to kicking the ‘ugly’ people out of group photos, it seems an impending wedding day really does bring out the worst (read: crazy) in everyone.
But this story might just take the cake. A US bride made potential bridesmaids bid to be a part of her wedding party, with whoever bid the highest winning the title of maid of honour.
The bride’s sister revealed the auction on Reddit under the name ‘SistersBridemaid’. The full post has now been deleted – though we’re hoping not because Bridezilla in question got hold of it – but all 500+ comments remain.
In the original piece, the sister revealed the bride had “very spoiled” growing up and though she can be sweet and caring, she’s a “very immature, high-maintenance person,” marie claire US reports.
“She still hasn’t chosen her bridesmaids. Instead, she has sent out dozens of…invitations, to various girls. It’s an invite to attend and participate in a ‘bidding auction on the six spots in her bridal party.'”
“Whichever six of all these chicks bid the most will be the bridesmaids. There’s also an auction for being her maid of honour,” the sister added.
“My sister and her fiancé are using the money to fund the wedding and honeymoon,” she clarified.
When she asked the Reddit community whether they thought she was being unreasonable for taking offence to the prospect of a bridal bidding war, people replied with a resounding “no!” and comments such as: “is there an option to pay to not have to be involved in this wedding?”
