When it comes to a great night’s sleep, your pillow is crucial. In the past, we’ve all been obsessed with down-filled pillows, wool pillows and whether yours is high or low. Now? It’s the memory foam pillow that gets the spotlight.
A memory foam pillow is a great option for neck support. The memory foam makeup gives a firm yet soft support, cradling your neck and contouring to your head shape.
The reason memory foam pillows often seem hard is because the foam is designed to react to your body heat, softening as it warms. So don’t be shocked when you first pop your head on your new pillow and find it too hard.
Below are our favourite memory foam pillow types that we tried, from ergonomic to standard shape.
Koala Pillow
The Koala pillow claims to be for all sleeper types, thanks to one side being softer than the other. It uses aeration holes to achieve this – you’ll notice if you remove the cover that the soft side has bigger holes, compared to the more firm side.
This makes it a great option for those who sometimes like a softer pillow, but sometimes harder. For example, I used the hard side for back sleeping, the soft for side sleeping.

Ecosa Pillow
The Ecosa memory foam pillow is designed ergonomically, with a rolling top that’s meant to fully support your neck. It can be a weird sleep for some who are used to a standard sized pillow, but heaven if you’re experiencing neck pains due to sleep.
One great benefit is the Ecosa pillow comes with three height adjusting pads, so you can lift the pillow depending on your preference.
Sleep Republic Pillow
The Sleep Republic memory foam pillow has become a favourite for me. I now regularly use the low profile pillow for sleep (you can purchase low or high profile), as I sleep on my front and side predominantly. It’s softer than many memory foam pillows, yet still supportive of the neck.
IKEA KLUBBESPORRE Pillow
Another ergonomic memory foam pillow, the IKEA KLUBBESPORRE also has a gel top layer for those who love the cool side of a pillow. It’s quite firm but with a low profile, which is more rare – perfect for someone who loves a firm pillow but doesn’t like a bulky one.
Emma Memory Foam Pillow
The brilliant thing about the Eva pillow is its adjustable layers – you can move these around depending on the firmness and profile you like. These are a firm layer, soft layer and contouring layer.

Eva Memory Foam Pillow
The cover of the Eva pillow is key to its adjustable firmness. Remove it, and you’ve got a softer pillow. Keep it on and feel the added firmness. It’s hypo-allergenic and easy to clean with a washable cover.
Etienne Home At Last Pillow
If you’re not sure what height you want your pillow (or your feelings change night to night) the Etienne Home At Last pillow could be right for you. It features two removable memory foam pads that allow you to adjust its firmness and height, meaning it suits everyone.
