While she may still be awaiting deportation back to Germany, scam artist Anna Delvey is keeping her finger on the pulse of the global news cycle, and one piece of information has caught her eye.
Ex-best friend Rachel DeLoache Williams (who Anna famously conned out of $62,000 during a trip to Marrakesh) has been invited to appear on Jada Pinkett Smith’s latest season of Red Table Talk to discuss her experience with the scammer, and Anna isn’t happy about it.
“Jada Pinkett Smith is having trauma-porn star Rachel ‘Karen-in-Chief’ on the upcoming trauma & healing episode of her @RedTableTalk. Just making sure she doesn’t forget to invite @ChrisRock,” Delvey wrote on Instagram, referring to the infamous slapping incident at the 2022 Oscars when her husband, Will Smith, slapped comedian Chris Rock.
In the Season 5 trailer, Williams can be seen sitting alongside a victim of the Tinder Swindler, as they both share their stories of being scammed by people they trusted. It seems as though the entire episode will have a con-artist theme to it, which both women are certainly well-equipped to talk about.
Williams has already received a fair amount of backlash from her apparent willingness to profit from such a traumatic event. In addition to her Vanity Fair column and book My Friend Anna, she later sold her own story rights to HBO and Lena Dunham, but as stated on the website, the project is not currently in development.
Following the release of Inventing Anna, the mini-series which took a deep-dive into Delvey and her crimes, Rachel was vocal about her disdain for the show, and its portrayal of both herself and Anna. In a piece for Air Mail, she accused the show of “running a con-woman’s PR’, with Williams writing a scathing review of the show’s glorification of Delvey and the profits she personally received from the project.
Many have been quick to call Williams out for her incessant rehashing of the incident, and at this point, it seems there’s nothing she could possibly have left to say. Her appearance on Red Table is sure to be interesting, with Jada having a knack for getting the nitty gritty details out of people. Will Williams walk away from this a more pitiful victim, or will it see her get a villain arc of her own?
We’ll have to wait to find out.
