The 2025 Oscars have finally begun, and with many shocks, surprises and notable exclusions making up the list of Academy Awards nominees, it’s bound to be another night to remember for the winners.

After plans for this year’s Oscars were impacted by the horrific Los Angeles wildfires, voting was pushed back until January 17 meaning the nominations announcement came later than expected.

But despite all this, the 97th Academy Awards went ahead as planned in the first week of March, streaming live in Australia from 8am Monday 3rd March.

While the Golden Globes are usually indicative of what subsequent award nominations lists will look like when it comes to the main nods, such as Best Actor and Actress and its supporting categories, this year’s exclusions beg to differ.

Among the notable exclusions are Angelina Jolie (Maria), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl) and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), who were all tipped to take out Oscar nominations after being recognised at this year’s Golden Globes. But it wasn’t to be.
