Based on the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, the series is set in a world where witches, vampires and daemons secretly live and work alongside humans, hidden in plain sight. The viral series, which reached more than two million viewers during its first season, is full of magic, mystery and drama aplenty.

While the first season was based on the first book of the trilogy, A Discovery of Witches, the second looks to Harkness’ second instalment, Shadow of a Night.

What Is The Second Season Of A Discovery Of Witches About?

As a refresher, the first season told the story of Diana Bishop, played by Australian actress Teresa Palmer, an American history professor studying at Oxford whose life is altered when she comes into contact with a mysterious manuscript, titled Ashmole 782.

The discovery forces her back into the world of magic, where she is offered help by a mysterious geneticist and vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode). Despite a long-held mistrust between witches and vampires, they form an alliance and set out to protect the book and solve the mysteries hidden within while dodging threats from the creature world.

For the second season, viewers are transported back in time to Elizabethan London, where Diana and Matthew must find a powerful witch teacher to help her control her magic and search for the elusive Book of Life.
