Comedian Kevin Hart has officially been booted as host of the 2019 Oscars after refusing to apologise for some old anti-gay tweets (good riddance, we say). This sudden departure of a host means the hunt is well and truly on for a capable replacement just two months out from Hollywood’s night of nights.
Because there is still no host and we can practically smell the desperate scramble from here, we thought we’d help the Academy out by putting forward our top picks for the gig (note: some of these are more serious than others).
Here are our top picks to host the Oscar’s for 2019:
Chrissy Teigen
Repeat after us: Chrissy Teigen WOULD. CRUSH. IT.
The woman is the queen of the clapback and is unafraid to lightly roast her peers if it is so called for, which truly is the making of a great awards night host.
Everyone’s favourite sass-pot would be an absolute delight should she be offered the job of Oscars host for 2019, and we know we’d be in for some serious laughs.
Hannah Gadsby
We would legit be so, so happy with this choice. Gadsby has absolutely killed all her other presenting gigs as of late by always bringing the right level of comedy mixed with sharp political commentary to her jokes. The Australian comedian is (in our eyes) the perfect candidate for Oscars Host for 2019.
Oprah Winfrey
Hosting the Oscars seems like the most natural of gigs for original talk-show host queen, Oprah Winfrey. We already know Winfrey is capable of commanding a crowd, and she is so universally liked by the audience and industry people alike that for the first time in Academy Award’s history we would probably see a flawless run at the coveted job.
Believe it or not, Oprah has never hosted the Oscars, so we think now might be the perfect time for Winfrey to make her hosting debut.
Meryl Streep
Who better to host the Oscar’s than the woman who has practically become the unofficial face of the awards night?
Meryl Streep is an utter legend, the actress has been nominated for an unbelievable 20 Academy Awards and we’re hard-pressed to think of any individual who would know how the Oscars tick quite like Streep.
Plus: We wouldn’t mind seeing the forever charming Meryl’s sassy side make an appearance.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas
Ok, we know this is a bit of a rogue entry for Oscars hosts 2K19, but hear us out.
Priyanka is a bonafide Bollywood star, meaning that girl can sing, dance and act – in other words – Chopra can put on a show. And seeing as Nick is a talented musician and showman in his own right, these newlyweds would make quite the hosting couple.
If their wedding is anything to go by, we know Priyanka and Nick are more than capable of putting on an evening (or three) to remember.
