The 2018 MTV VMAs were held on Monday at Radio City in New York and in true rock ‘n’ roll style there was a lot to take in between extreme outfits on the red carpet (hello Amber Rose) to lovebirds Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande’s intense display of affection. Here, we wrap up five major moments you might have missed.
Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande’s red carpet debut as a couple was highly anticipated and they did not disappoint, showing they are really in love/lust with a full-blown PDA-fest on the VMAs pink carpet.
The queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, passed away on August 16 and the VMAs provided the perfect opportunity to pay public tribute. Unfortunately, Madonna, who was responsible for delivering the tribute, didn’t realise it was supposed to be about Franklin and spoke mostly about herself and her musical journey. The internet was not impressed calling the whole thing ‘tone deaf’. Of course, Mads responded (she’s not known for keeping quiet) with a post on Instagram justifying her non-tribute.
49-year-old recording artist and actress Jennifer Lopez performed a knockout medley of her hits at the award ceremony and won the Video Vanguard Award, during her acceptance speech she paid a sweet tribute to her boyfriend, former professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez. He clearly loved it with cameras capturing the athlete filming his girl up on stage. He also took a few snaps of his hot date on the red carpet on the way in #couplegoals.
Surprisingly with so much skin on show at the VMAs there weren’t too many wardrobe malfunctions, with the most notable narrowly avoided thanks to Ariana Grande. When Nicki Minaj was making her way up to the stage the train on her dress became tangled and Grande, proving the good friend she is, leapt up to sort it out before it become a total wardrobe nightmare.
Ja Rule was the clear winner of best audience member of the night – showing the greatest reactions to all the action up on stage.
