Just when we thought we would never recover from this current Younger drought; we’ve been met with some seriously good news to kick-start our Monday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ViacomCBS and producer Darren Star are creating a spinoff series that revolves around Hilary Duff’s character Kelsey Peters.
When we left the young, determined Peter’s in the season six finale, she was back and reunited with her Millennial family after a very short sabbatical teaming up with the show’s resident villain, Quinn. While the Duff-led Younger spinoff is still in its early stages, we can’t wait to see Kelsey do her thing as the member of the board she’s always wanted to be!
In July last year, a seventh season of the hit show, which follows the crazy and cut-throat world of New York City publishing through the eyes of Liza Miller, was confirmed. The shows very successful sixth season premier pulled a staggering 1.3 million viewers, making it the cable’s highest-rated sitcom among women 25-54 and women 18-49.
The Younger spinoff isn’t the only New York City-based series Duff has in the works. After much speculation, the star is set to reprise her Disney Channel role as Lizzie McGuire for the Disney+ reboot. However, back in April, the actress revealed to People that production had recently been put on hold due to “creative differences.”
“There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit,” said Duff.
“I understand that they have to protect their brand and there’s pretty strict guidelines on what that looks like. I just have to make sure it’s the right move for me and that I feel like I’m honouring her and the character, and that it will be relatable to the people who grew up with her because those are the people I really want to speak to.”
