Following on from Prince Philip’s car crash earlier this year, where his car flipped, injuring two women in another vehicle, another royal roadside accident has occured. An 83-year-old woman has been hospitalised and is in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s police convoy.
The incident happened when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were travelling to the Order of the Garter service on Monday in West London. The woman, identified as Irene Mayor, was believed to be crossing the street when she was hit by a police motorbike at the front of the convoy, BBC reports.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon,” a statement issued by Kensington Palace reads.
“Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery,” the statement continued.
BBC reports that the duke and duchess have been in contact with Mayor and have sent her flowers.
