More details have emerged surrounding the couple who died in a suspected murder-suicide of Tasmin Bahar and Dave Pillay while their daughter slept just metres away.
The 35-year-old mother had reportedly moved out of the family home with her daughter just five weeks earlier, after Pillay allegedly held a knife to the three-year-oldโs neck.
โHe (Pillay) took a knife to my nieceโs neck and that is when (she) decided she cannot live with the man anymore,โ Baharโs cousin Sifat Sharmin Ruponty told Seven News.
It has been reported that she alerted police of the incident, but no details of this have been made available.
However on Sunday, Fatherโs Day, Bahar wanted her daughter to spend time with her dad. A decision that would ultimately cost her, her life.
โWe told her not to go [to the Smithfield house] โฆ but she went for Fatherโs Day,โ Sharagin said. โShe wanted Dave to see her daughter,โ Baharโs sister, Sharagin Bahar, told Fairfax.
Sharagin is now flying to Australia from her home in New York, to take custody of her niece.
โ[Tasmin] was perfectly fine when I talked to her two days before,โ Sharagin told Fairfax Media.
โI am so lost. I just want to take my niece into my custody, I want her with me. Iโll take care of her. Iโll do whatever is best for her.โ
Police say no one else was wanted over the deaths but are yet to release further details surrounding what went on inside the house.
A male relative is reported to have found the bodies and alerted police.
