On July 12, South Carolina woman Jessica Edens visited her parents’ house to borrow a .40 caliber handgun.
A day later, she shot her two children, another woman and herself to deliver “everlasting consequences for her husband”.
As PEOPLE reports, police say 36-year-old Edens first shot Meredith Rahme, a woman she believed was in a relationship with her estranged husband.
Ms Edens then allegedly fled the scene and shot her 5-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son in the back of her Jeep in a petrol station parking lot.
Then, she shot herself.
Pickens County Sheriff Office spokesman Creed Hashe said Ms Edens had been upset about a custody dispute in family court at the time.
“Mrs Edens developed a plan in the next couple of days that she felt would cause everlasting consequences for her husband, Benjamin Edens,” Pickens County Sheriff Office spokesman Creed Hashe said.
According to CBS, Ms Eden’s estranged husband Benjamin Edens and his colleague, Ms Rahme, had called police just days before the shooting. Both reported that Ms Edens had harassed them through messaged on Facebook.
Authorities say Ms Rahme worked with Mr Edens and also lived in the same apartment complex as him.
