UK police are attempting to piece together a university student’s movements after she disappeared on a freezing night out with friends. 21-year-old Libby Squire spent Thursday night drinking with her friends in Hull, a city in East-Yorkshire, before being turned away from a club and making her way home.
Libby was last seen near the Welly Club, where she was turned away by security. Two of the last people to see her say she could “barely stand up” she was so drunk.
“On the night of her disappearance, we were going to the Welly too. It was below zero. The taxi dropped her off. She got out and was walking down the street. She fell over a couple of times. She dressed all in black,” fellow student Tom Tully told The Sun.
“She was too drunk to be on her own.”
Another friend, Ryan Tweddle, told The Mirror her disappearance “fees like something out of a movie”.
Police believe Libby got a taxi back to her nearby home, which is where witnesses saw her stumbling and walking away from her front door. It’s believed she was seen about 45 minutes later on a bench, where a passing motorist got out and asked her if she was okay. She told him she was fine and that is the last reliable sighting of her.
Libby’s mother Lisa took to Facebook in search of answers.
“We need to have her back with us. Any information or sightings please contact the police. They are doing a great job and going above and beyond.
“Please look out for my baby girl. I’m broken…Libby come home.”
Police and crime scene investigators are searching her home and nearby area, including the nearby river. Hull, much like the rest of the UK, is subject to freezing temperatures that saw snow and below zero temperatures.
Superintendent Simon Gawthorpe said, “We are supporting Libby’s family who have described her as a very thoughtful and caring young woman who puts others before herself. They say this is very out of character. I once again urge anyone with information about Libby to come forward.”
“Over 70 officers have been out searching and speaking to friends, visiting pubs and clubs in the area and making inquiries with those who saw her during the evening.
“Officers are out again today searching and we are hoping that Libby will return safe and well.”
