Timothée Chalamet first popped onto our screens back in 2012, but it was in 2017 when his role in Luca Guadagnino’s romantic drama Call Me by Your Name, made him a household name. The role earned him an Acadamy Award nomination for best actor, making him the third-youngest nominee in the category. Now, Chalamet has ticked another accolade off his list, recently being named the most influential man in fashion, according to Lyst’s Year in Fashion Index.

In the last couple of years alone, Chalamet has proven to the fashion world what experimental style REALLY looks like. He’s known for breaking the mold when it comes to red carpet dressing, has a penchant for new brands like S.R. Studio LA. CA. and then there’s the fact that Chalamet doesn’t even use a stylist and develops all of his looks himself!
Just to give you a rough indication of the type of influence our boy Timothée has, after he wore a sequined black Louis Vuitton hoodie to the premier of The King, Lyst saw a 192% spike in searches for men’s hoodies on their site. If that wasn’t impressive enough, his Venice Film ensembles, which were mostly designed by French designer Haider Ackerman, resulted in an 806% increase in searches for the designer. No other celebrity tracked by Lyst, not even the formidable Meghan Markle – who was crowned 2019’s most influential celebrity – created that much interest in a designer this year.
The annual Lyst Year in Fashion Index tracks search, social media, sales and news – ranking designers, brands and fashion-world stars for an insight into the year’s biggest trends. If Chalamet’s undeniable fashion streak defined by soft tailoring and Virgil Abloh harnesses continues, there’s nothing to say the actor won’t take out the title for a second year in 2020.
