Tilda Swinton Is The Favourite To Be The Next Doctor Who

The bookies have spoken.

Ever since Peter Capaldi announced in January that he would be stepping down from the role of Doctor Who at the end of the year, fans have been speculating who will take up the coveted role in 2018.

Doctor Who has been running on BBC since 1963, and twelve actors have played the role so far – all male. But now, fans have floated the idea that it’s time for a female Doctor Who.

Tilda Swinton is the bookies favourite to win, with Ladbrokes tipping her 7/2 ahead of other stars like Kris Marshall, Olivia Colman, Maxine Peake and Ben Wishaw. Another betting site, Sky Bet, has tipped her as equal favourite with Kris Marshall at 3/1.

The rumours about the next Doctor Who being female started when writer and executive producer of the show Steven Moffat suggested that the next choice might be a woman.

“I think the next time might be a female Doctor. I don’t see why not,” he said.

Tilda Swinton does make sense as a choice, given her androgynous look, the fact that she’s British, and her roles in other sci-fi films like Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

No official announcement has been made about the next choice of actor, but we’ll be eagerly awaiting their decision.
