The Beautiful Reason Hillary Clinton Wore Purple To Deliver Her Concession Speech

Hillary Clinton last night publicly conceded the election to Donald Trump.

Yesterday, women across the United States donned white pantsuits in tribute to the American suffragettes who donned the same hue while fighting for women’s right to vote. They proudly cast their vote for what they hoped would be the first female president in one of the most momentous and historic elections in US history.

Sadly, as America voted for its 45th President, the outcome wasn’t to be in Hillary’s favour.

Throughout the election campaign Hillary Clinton proudly rocked an array of pantsuits, despite jokes and criticism she proudly owned it and made it her signature style, and most noticeably opting for red, white and blue during the presidential debates.

Ever the champion of equality, as she stood on the stage in front of hundreds of devastated fans at the New Yorker Hotel to deliver her powerful concession speech, the first-ever female candidate made one more poignant sartorial statement.

Not only were the words she spoke a lesson in grace and elegance, but so too was the colour she chose to wear along with her husband, Bill Clinton, as he stood behind her.

Clinton hit the stage in a charcoal Ralph Lauren pantsuit, but it was the addition of a dramatic purple lapel and matching blouse that spoke volumes.

Red, the colour of the republican party. Blue, the colour of the democrats. And when you mix the two, you get purple.

The colour which symbolises unity, echoed the words in her speech, where she urged the divided nation to come together.

“Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans,” Clinton said. “Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead.”

“Our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power and we don’t just respect that, we cherish it,” she said. “It also enshrines other things: the rule of law, the principle that we are equal in rights and dignity, freedom of worship and expression. We respect and cherish these values too and we must defend them.”

The move didn’t go unnoticed, with fans applauding her message of unity on social media.
