While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had our blessing since the minute they were spotted together, a very important royal has finally given her approval.
As PEOPLE reports, The Queen has now given her formal consent to the loved-up pair to wed.
In a letter to the Privy Council, Queen Elizabeth II expressed her approval for the marriage of her “most dearly beloved grandson” and Meghan Markle. She even used Harry and Meghan’s actual first names—Henry and Rachel (Meghan is her middle name).
“My Lords, I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which Consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council,” the message reads.
According to USA Today, this formal proclamation is required by British law on the royal succession. Back in 2011, the Queen did the same thing ahead of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding.
Harry is currently fifth in line to the throne but will be bumped to sixth place after Prince William and Duchess Kate of Cambridge’s third child is born.
