It’s currently still International Women’s Day in the US, and Donald Trump responded accordingly by doing the presidential thing and tweeting a statement in support of the day.
His comments were not exactly well received, however, as people noticed a hint of irony to his words.

He tweeted, “I have tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy.”
Adding, “On International Women’s Day, join me in honouring the critical role of women here in America & around the world.”

The women of the world did not take well to his words, particularly given the controversial things he has said about women in the past, and the ‘pussy-grabbing scandal’.
People responded on Twitter, calling him out for his words…
"Women? I love those things." https://t.co/ECgBXUvery

Mr. President, it's great that you've changed your mind since the time you were quoted as saying: "Women, you have to treat 'em like shit." https://t.co/c0f7IM9FI1

Senator Warren has also responded to Trump, telling MSNBC’s Live with Stephanie Ruhle she would tweet back: “Talk is cheap. Put your money where your mouth is. Give us some of the rules and regulations that will be helpful to this economy, helpful to women, helpful to our families, helpful to our communities.”
.@realDonaldTrump Honestly, the best thing you could do for #InternationalWomensDay is to just go ahead & resign. https://t.co/9QKvCvZ9et

By comparison, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a much bigger contribution to women around the world by pledging to donate $650 million for reproductive health and rights around the world.
He also released this beautiful video (in English AND French) to celebrate the day:
On #IWD2017, we celebrate the remarkable achievements women have made, & reaffirm our commitment to gender equality: https://t.co/ElKIQYJ7uK pic.twitter.com/ONRYXQu8G6

And if you’re so inclined, check out the French version…
