Police have charged a 19-year-old Broadmeadows man over the death of a woman, believed to be in her 20s, found at a Carlton North soccer field in Melbourne yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 3am on Wednesday morning after the woman’s body was discovered by a passer-by, smh.com.au reports.
The woman is yet to be identified, but homicide squad detectives arrested the teenage male after he was caught on CCTV footage of the area, according to news.com.au.
He has been charged with one count of rape and one count of murder and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court.
The Carlton North park is a popular spot, according to local superintendent David Clayton.
“This is an area of high community activity,” he urged the public. “Make sure you have situational awareness, that you’re aware of your surroundings.”
