18-year-old Paige Hunter has been commended worldwide after she tied more than 40 notes to Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland, England which helped to save six lives.
Paige, who came up with the idea herself, made colourful signs, one of which reads: โEven though things are difficult, your life matters; youโre a shining light in a dark world, so just hold on.โ
After hearing of her kind deed, Northumbria Police presented Paige with a framed commendation certificate to recognise her selfless acts.
โWe thought it was important to applaud the work Paige has been doing and the help she has given those in Sunderland who are going through a mental health crisis,โ said Chief Supt Pitt.
โPaige has shown an incredible understanding of vulnerable people in need of support, and this is an innovative way to reach out to those in a dark place.โ
โFor somebody so young, Paige has shown a real maturity and we thought it would only be right to thank her personally. She should be very proud of herself.โ
โI wasnโt doing this for an award; it was just something that I wanted to do,โ the inspirational teen said. โMy family are just proud of me and Iโm going to put it up on the wall. I just want to help people.โ
โSince I put the messages up Iโve had a lot of comments from people,โ she continued. โTheyโve said itโs been really inspiring.โ
โItโs just amazing, the response it has had.โ
