A 52-year-old man has been arrested for the abduction and sexual assault of a Belgian backpacker in South Australia.
The Daily Mail reports that he snatched the 24-year-old woman, responding to an ad she had posted online looking for work.
Now, a court has heard that the man potentially has other female victims.
“There is a belief that there may be other victims that may come forward,” Brevet Sergeant Natasha Goode said.
“The investigation is alive. Obtaining evidence from the defendant’s premises is still ongoing.”
The alleged victim was kidnapped after she got on a bus to Murray Bridge, and taken to the man’s property in Meringie in a red ute.
She was held there and the man threatened her if she ran away that he would shoot her.
The woman managed to get a message sent to her friend in Queensland and her parents in Belgium, and she was reported missing to police.
Police managed to find her at her location through a tip off from a member of the public, and arrested the man. He was charged with three counts of rape and one count of unlawful detention.
The man will return to court on Friday for a review of suppression orders.
