She cut her teeth in Hollywood by portraying one of the most beloved and iconic fictional characters of all time, (Diana Prince, also known as Wonder Woman), and now 36-year-old Israeli actress Gal Gadot is set to star in another nostalgic role—The Evil Queen in Disney’s live action adaptation of Snow White.
The news comes just hours before Gadot stepped out on the red carpet with her co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to promote her new film Red Notice.
The theme of the evening was obviously red, with Gadot donning a fabulous crimson coloured LOEWE gown that was serving major ‘lady dancing emoji’ 💃 realness.
Gadot’s choice of roles has sparked controversy in the past—her casting as one of the greatest Pharaohs of all time, Cleopatra, certainly caused a stir—we’re excited to see her join the leagues of Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Emma Stone who depicted some of Disney’s interesting villains.
While we’re excited to see Gadot grace our screen in Kenneth Branagh’s revamp of Agatha Christie’s 1937 novel Death On The Nile, below we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the upcoming film, including who is slated to star as the titular role of Snow White.
Who Is Starring In Snow White?
Gal Gadot is gearing up to portray the Evil Queen in the live action adaptation of Snow White. This character has been played by the likes of Charlize Theron and Julia Roberts in the past, so Gadot has huge boots to fill.
Taking on the titular role will be 20-year-old newcomer Rachel Zegler. Zegler is set to star as the lead in Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated movie-musical West Side Story, so we know that the rising star has an impressive vocal register.
Who Is Directing Snow White?
Marc Webb has signed on to direct the project. Webb is best known for his directorial work in The Amazing Spiderman with Andrew Garfield and his debut in the cult-favourite romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer.
Will Snow White Have Music?
While the music was a major part of the original 1937 animation, Disney has revealed the soundtrack will have a twist, with new material being written exclusively for the project.
Taking on the task will be Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the composer duo behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman and Aladdin, so yeah, it’s going to be great.
When Will Snow White Be Released?
Snow White has been in development since 2016, however now Disney’s leading ladies are set to begin production on the film in early 2022.
Filming is slated to take place in the United Kingdom.
