Tributes are flowing in for two sisters, aged, 10 and 13, who were tragically killed in a fire in a granny flat in Tasmania.
Emergency services were called to a property in Turner’s Marsh at about 3am on Sunday when the girls’ father raised the alarm.
Siblings Shanzel and Ruby Brewer were sleeping inside the flat when the fire started and their bodies were found by emergency services.
The girls’ father, Clifford Brewer, posted an emotional tribute to his daughters on Facebook, 9 News reports.
“To my babbie girl Shanzel brewer I love you with all my heart… and your sister Ruby Brewer, I will always love yous two girls,” he wrote.
“Yous was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
According to ABC News, the fire might have been caused by an electrical cord leading to the flat. Inspector John King indicated there were no fire alarms in the flat, which was originally a shed and repurposed as a bedroom for the girls.
“The family are extremely distraught,” Inspector John King said. “Not only have the two little girls unfortunately perished in this fire, the three other children were in the main house.”
The girls’ family and friends also shared heartbreaking messages on Facebook hours after the blaze.
“Waking up to hear this tragic news and still can’t believe my two beautiful little cousins have been taken away from us,” Kelsey Lee wrote.
Miraki Thompson wrote: “My heart is broken I feel so lost! No words can explain the pain! I’m speechless! I can’t believe it. It just doesn’t feel real.”
