In the film, director Nick Broomfield addresses rumours that Houston was caught in a bizarre love triangle with her husband, Bobby Brown, and her best friend and assistant Robyn Crawford.

Crawford met Houston at age 16 on a summer job in New Jersey and after a long friendship became the singerโ€™s assistant.

Broomfield told News Corp that Robyn and Bobby โ€œwere the two main relationshipsโ€ in Houstonโ€™s life. The director also discussed rumours about the singerโ€™s sexuality.

โ€œWhether Whitney was gay was neither here nor there to me,โ€ Broomfield said. โ€œI know she and Robyn lived together for a long time, they had a very intimate friendship. I think there was definitely some kind of relationship there, probably a sexual relationship at one point, that might have changed at the end but there was definitely something there.โ€

He continued: โ€œI think thatโ€™s why Robyn as very threatening to Bobby Brown. It encroached on his relationship with Whitney. There was this strange three-way love affair with Whitney in the middle that caused Robyn and Bobby to occasionally come to fisticuffs.โ€

Crawford now has a wife and two kids.

Houstonโ€™s bodyguard of seven years has also spoken out about Bobby Brownโ€™s negative influence in an interview with Radio Times.

โ€œWe brought this man out on tour and it became an additional burden,โ€ Roberts said, referring to Brown. โ€œEvery two days there was a crate of Heineken and a bottle of Crown Royal, and every third day we were ill. If that coincided with a show, too bad, the show didnโ€™t go on.

โ€œThis man could not come up to her level so she went down to his.โ€

The singer was tragically found dead in her bathtub in 2012. The coroner ruled Houstonโ€™s cause of death was drowning, contributed to by the effects of heart disease and cocaine use.
