At the beginning of this year, actress Shay Mitchell revealed she had suffered a miscarriage in 2018, writing on Instagram that she had “lost the child of my hopes and dreams.”
The 32-year-old, who is now six-months pregnant to her partner Matte Babel, opened up about why she chose to wait so long before revealing her current pregnancy, saying on a new YouTube video that last time it “didn’t go as I had hoped for, and it was extremely difficult.”
“The first time that I was pregnant last year, Matt and I hadn’t been planning, it happened and we were really excited about it,” she said in the clip, titled ‘Keeping a Secret’. “I was like 14 weeks, at that point, I had no idea the percentage of miscarriages. When it happened I was just, completely blindsided by it.”
Shay then breaks down in tears, revealing she still has the ultrasound photos on her phone and footage of her visits to the doctor. “And it’s weird because, I haven’t looked at them, obviously,” she says. “But, it’s not like I forgot about that happening, so of course I’m like super happy, but I still feel for that one that I lost.”
During the video, Shay also reveals that she has been dating her partner, Matt, for the past three years. “Matt and I started quietly dating about three years ago. I guess you could say we’re best friends now,” she says.
Last week, it was confirmed the couple are expecting a baby girl, after filming perhaps the most insane gender reveal in history.
