Since it’s premiere in 2019, Sex Education has captivated viewers around the world with its frank and funny portrayal of its teenage characters’ relationships and sex lives. The show has also received acclaim for achieving a high level of diversity without resorting to stereotypes, and for it’s treatment of intimate content.

So, as we near the end of the show, here’s what you can expect from the final season.

What Can We Expect From The Plot Of Sex Education Season Four?

The fourth season of Sex Education picks up from where season three left off. If you need a reminder, the season ended with Maeve heading to the US (after her and Otis shared that kiss in front of Ruby), Eric Effiong entering a single era after ending his relationship with Adam, who discovered a passion for dog shows. Otis’s mum, Jean, also gave birth to a new baby, which means we’ll likely be seeing how Otis and Jean navigate their relationship with a newborn in the house.

The trailer for season four gives us a good idea about what we can expect from the upcoming season. It shows Otis and Maeve trying to navigate a long-distance relationship, Eric exploring single life and Aimee exploring herself. We also see Jean adjust to life as a single mother to teenager and a baby.

As the final season, we’re expecting the fourth season of Sex Education to wrap up our favourite characters stories and provide some closure around their relationships, particularly those of Otis and Maeve, Otis and Ruby, as well as with Eric and Adam.

What Cast Members Will Be Returning For Sex Education Season Four?

We’re pleased to report that most of our favourite cast members will be returning for the final season of the show. This includes Asa Butterfield (Otis), Gillian Anderson (Jean), Emma Mackey (Maeve), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Connor Swindells (Adam), Mimi Keene (Ruby) and Aimee Lou Wood (Aimee).

Unfortunately, a couple of our favourite cast members won’t be coming back for season four. This includes Simone Ashley, who played Olivia in the previous seasons. This is because the actress is now tied to Bridgerton commitments in her role as Kate Sharma.

Patricia Allison, who plays Ola Nymanhas, also won’t be returning in the fourth season.

The actor explained to Capital Xtra, “I won’t be joining the team for Season 4. I absolutely have loved my time on Sex Education, and I’m so sorry to have to break that to you guys… I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve loved it.”

The same goes for Ola’s love interest Lily, played by actor Tanya Reynolds.

“I’m not [returning], actually, which is sad, very sad,” Reynolds told Radio Times in July 2021.
“It’s just the natural progression of these shows. When you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen.”

However, we do have a new character joining the last season—none other than Dan Levy, who will be playing Maeve’s U.S. tutor at her Ivy League college.
