From Charlie’s Angels to Veronica Mars, reboots have proven to be an exceptional route for Hollywood producers looking for the next big box-office hit. However, we’ve also seen how easily they can fail, never measuring up to the success of the original.

One thing that usually leads us to believe that the second-time around is going to be just as killer? When the original cast members sign up. And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Courteney Cox has been confirmed to reprise her iconic role as as journalist Gale Weathers. Cox herself took to Instagram to not-so-subtly hint at the news as well.

David Arquette, who has played Sherrif Dewey Riley in all four previous Scream sequels, confirmed to Variety that he will also be taking part in the reboot. “I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new… Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring Wes Craven’s legacy,” he said in a statement.

Wes Craven, the legendary horror genre director who passed away in 2015, directed all four previous films. However, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli, known for thrillers such as Ready or Not, are set to helm the latest sequel.

Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter behind the franchise, will executive produce the reboot, with hopes to finish filming by the end of 2020.

As for whether Neve Campbell will return to Woodsboro? Well, earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the reboot’s producers had reached out to Campell to potentially reprise her leading role as Sidney Prescott, however she seems to be on the fence, telling the outlet:

“I definitely had a period where I was thinking it would just be too odd to do a movie without Wes [Craven], and I wasn’t certain that I would want to do that,” Campbell said. “But, I think enough time has passed. I got this really, really respectful letter from the directors of the new one. They wrote a letter honouring Wes in such a beautiful way, and they expressed that the reason they make horror movies is because of Wes and the Scream films. They also expressed how blown away they are at the idea of actually getting an opportunity to make one of them and how much they want to honour and respect Wes’ vision… So, we’ll see.”

That we will, Neve.
