Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac have reportedly filed for divorce.

Once connected through their common love for body ink and appreciation for art culture, the couple of over two years will soon be husband and wife no more.

Now, Scarlett Johansson has released a serious statement to PEOPLE asking for privacy during this difficult time.

“As a devoted mother and private person and with complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself, I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage,” she said.

“Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working moms, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same. Thank you.”

Like Johansson, Frenchman, journalist, and art collector Romain Dauriac also shared the desire to live a low-key, under-the-radar life (well, as low-key as possible when you are dating an international sensation).

So the couple of mystery decided to have an inconspicuous and somewhat secret wedding following the birth of their daughter Rose Dorothy in October 2014.

Whilst keeping her relationship and personal life relatively out of the public eye, Johansson still asserts her role as a public figure and as recently as last month voiced her opinions at the Women’s March in Washington D.C.

It was at this rally that Scar-Jo was sighted with the obvious absence of a wedding ring, sparking public speculation.

All those queries have now been validated as The New York Post revealed that Johansson’s attorney served Dauriac’s lawyer with divorce papers on Tuesday.

But here lies a fork in the road as Scarlett wants custody of their daughter but so does Romain, who also wants to go back to life in France, which is justifiable by his lawyer because “Johansson does a lot of travelling” anyway.

A smooth legal route would obviously be favourable to a vicious custody feud and for their daughter’s sake.

As Dauriac’s attorney puts it, “It will be an interesting (legal) process.”
