Sarah Jessica Parker recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about her new show, Divorce.
She spoke about how proud she was of the show and the story it told, and especially of the way it did things differently, which Jimmy Kimmel pointed out was quite brave coming off such a beloved show like Sex and the City.

But Sarah Jessica Parker said it wasn’t always a sure choice with Sex and the City. She spoke about how different HBO was back when the show started airing.
“It was interesting at the time… HBO was pretty much a male-dominated sports network,” she said. “It was a network for boxing and really important live sporting events, and I think they had a couple of scripted shows, but those were like male-dominated, the Dream On and like the football show, you know?”

Though she was very intrigued and interested by the show, she said that she double-guessed her choice.
“I thought it was an interesting role, and I loved that script, and then when I finished it, I completely forgot about it because I went on and did a play or whatever. And then I ran into somebody on the street and they were like, “Oh, you know, I saw your show,” and I was like, “What show?” And they were like “You did a show called Sex and the City.” And I was like, “Oh right! Right, right, right.” And I was like, “You saw it? I haven’t seen it.” And she was like, “Yeah, it’s great.” And I was like “Oh, all right.” (shrugs) And then they finally said, “You know, we’re going to do it.” And I was like, “I don’t know. I don’t know. I feel like the moment passed. I feel like maybe I’m not so keen to commit to”—but I was foolish, and people wisely talked me out of it, and I went to set the first day and never looked back.”
