Sarah Ferguson, aka Fergie, has revealed that she and Princess Diana were once arrested for impersonating police officers.
In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Fergie said she and the late Princess donned police officer costumes for her bachelorette party back in 1986.
“It was extraordinary, because we went to a nightclub – of course, you go to a nightclub with the Princess of Wales,” she said.
“We sat down, and the waiter came up to us and said, ‘Excuse me, this is a members club. It’s for fun, and we don’t serve police officers here.”
After leaving the club, the pair were then arrested by actual police officers, the Duchess of York recalled.
“We were arrested by parks police, so we go in the back of the van, and [Diana] had put her engagement ring round the other way, and I’d put mine round the other way, and we were sitting in there like this, and she just looked round and saw smoky bacon-flavoured crisps and started taking them and eating them, and the policeman in the front said, ‘You can’t do that!” she continued.
The story ended with Fergie saying the officers soon realised the real identities of the royal pair, before promptly releasing them.
In an interview with People, the Duchess reflected on her famous friendship with Princess Diana, who she affectionately referred to as “Duch,” saying, “We were best friends from when she was 14 and I was 15.”
The women, who were fourth cousins, developed a close bond after marrying royal brothers, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew. They reportedly maintained a close bond even after both marriages came to an end.
“If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, ‘I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen.”
“And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren. Because that’s what she loved,” she added, referring to William and Kate’s three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, and Harry and Megan’s two children, Archie and Lillibet.
