As awards season continues, we’re gearing up for the 2023 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. It might not have the same recognition of, say, the Oscars, but as the only awards ceremony dedicated exclusively to actors, it tends to be quite a buzzy night.
When are the 2023 SAG Awards being held?
This year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards are set to take place on February 26 at 8:00pm Eastern Standard Time (EST).
If you’re tuning in from Australia, that’s Monday 27 February at 12pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
Where to watch the SAG Awards from Australia?
For the first time, this year’s show will be streamed directly to Netflix’s YouTube channel. This move marks the first step towards the platform’s plan to stream directly from 2024.
On the shift to live streaming, SAG-AFTRA national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said, “We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new partnership with Netflix, and we look forward to expanding the global audience for our show.”
Who is nominated for a SAG award in 2023?
Going head to head for Most Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture are Babylon, The Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Fablemans, and Women Talking.
Austin Butler will go up against Colin Farrell, Bill Nighy, Brendan Fraser, and Adam Sandler for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor. Butler took out the same category at the Golden Globes just weeks ago for his leading role in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.
Also nominated again is Zendaya, who was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama TV Series for her portrayal of Rue in the second season of HBO’s Euphoria. At the 2023 SAG Awards, she’ll face Jennifer Coolidge, who won fans over with her portrayal of the eccentric Tanya in season one and two of The White Lotus.
Who is presenting at this year’s SAG awards?
While no official host has been announced yet, Paul Mescal, Emily Blunt, Don Cheadle, Caleb McLuaghlin, and Ashley Park are all set to be present. The remaining presenters are still to be announced.
Ginny and Georgia’s Antonia Gentry and The White Lotus‘ Haley Lu Richardson have been named as the evening’s official ambassadors. As part of this role, the pair will present, and share a behind-the-scenes look at the show with live streamed audiences.
An online statement confirmed their appointment, saying, “SAG Awards Ambassadors are actors who exemplify the utmost values of the profession and are positive role models for the next generation of performers. These individuals actively use their platform to advocate for humanitarian and public service endeavours.”
