The name of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s first baby has finally been revealed, and it’s not what we expected.
According to the Daily Mail, the couple named their first-born son RZA Athelston Mayers, after the Wu-Tang Clan leader, producer and rapper RZA.
Vulture also revealed a sweet detail about the name, saying that RZA shares his middle name, “Athelston”, with his father, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers.
Rihanna, 35, gave birth to RZA in May 2022 and, up until recently, the couple have kept their son’s identity relatively private.
In recent months, however, Rihanna has shared cute clips of RZA to Instagram, and also appeared in public with him in her arms.
The name reveal comes partway through the couple’s second pregnancy, which was announced in February 2023, at the Super Bowl halftime performance.
Rihanna’s dad, Ronald Fenty, teased to Page Six that the couple had an idea of the second baby’s name, but kept coy on the exact details, saying, “She’ll have my head if I tell you.”
Exactly when the second baby is due remains unknown, but RZA was born four months after Rihanna’s first pregnancy was announced, so we could be expecting the fourth member of the Fenty-Mayers family any day now.
While Rihanna had previously told Vogue she had imagined herself married before starting a family, she and A$AP are yet to the knot.
She also told the publication that they weren’t actively trying to conceive, but also “weren’t planning against” a pregnancy.
As for her parenting style, Rihanna said she hoped her children would “teach [her] more than [she] could ever teach them.”
“And I want them to go for it. I want to see who they are in the world, who they become.”
