The Bachelor‘s Richie Strahan has finally opened up about his split with Alex Nation.
Though Alex is now in a new relationship with her football teammate Maegan Luxa – and, by the looks of these photos, could actually be engaged – neither party had addressed the split to the media.
The only closure fans got was Alex’s reply to an Instagram comment last month: “Richie is a great person, he’ll still get his ever after,” she wrote.
“We both hoped for things to work but life just is. Sometimes things in life simply don’t work out for us. You cherish the nice memories and you move forward.”
Now Richie has opened up about the split, saying the whole thing was “heartbreaking.”
“The months leading up to it were the most difficult, crazy and confusing times I’ve been put through,” he told New Idea. “Having something wonderful dissolve the way it did was heartbreaking, but at the same time, there was a lot of relief that the emotional roller-coaster was finally over.”
“I guess the brightest spark can fizzle fast. We made some bad choices back in June and our relationship really struggled to recover for months after. It didn’t matter how much effort I put into it – sometimes these things are destined to fail.”
Richie didn’t say much about Alex’s new relationship, other than that he hopes “she’s really happy.”
The 32-year-old also mentioned that he’s still looking for love. Cool bananas, anyone?
